about

Obvious is quite possibly one of my best fictional pieces
I've written for Provision.

When Visualize was coming together as an album, I saw a lot of my friends struggling in their relationships. Couples I knew who'd been together for many years were breaking up. I saw so much heartbreak around me. And I myself was healing from my own divorce. If you're ever been in a relationship or marriage that caused you heartache, this is where the origin of Obvious is coming from. This song sums up the pain in a way I feel so many can relate to.

We began performing Obvious live in late 2003' and it was always a crowd favorite, no matter where we performed it. It still remains the hardest song for me to pull off on stage, due to the intricate way I wrote the lyrical criss-cross style dynamics of the verses.

When the song was recorded for the album, I broke up the verses into separate sections and multi-tracked all the vocals. It's very difficult to emulate that on stage. But I've always given it my best.

The Official Music Video for Obvious was shot on the Metro Light Rail in Downtown Houston, Texas and it features the Visualize U.S. Tour and Regular Edition Album Era of the band which includes Jen Foxx, Leslie Hyman, myself and Charles M. (Randon Harris). We were all so very young when this video was filmed. You can check it out on You Tube.

lyrics

Obvious

Don’t want to cry myself to sleep anymore.
I’m only wasting away, here in this bed all alone.
I won’t give in to this emptyness invading my soul.
And somehow deep inside, I doubt you’ll realize I’m gone.

Regret seems endless now.
The passion between us dies.
What I once felt for you, there are no words to describe.

You’re so oblivious, to my thoughts and feelings.
When it comes to us, I’ve stopped believing.
It’s obvious, when you hear me cry.
Do you care at all? You make it obvious.

I’m through with all the excuses.
There’s no need to explain.
Living without a conscience, you believe it’s a game.
I’m sinking into regret, this pain you can’t rearrange.
To feel resentment inside, is an assessment of blame.

You say I’m the only one.
You’ve made your choice again.
I’ll spend the night alone, feeling nothing.
