about
Replicate was the 1st song I wrote for my son Bastian.
I wrote the verses just 7 days before he was born.
I did not know when he was going to come into the world, but I had already begun to put into words; what it was like inside my mind as I prepared to become a father.
The chorus lyrics were finally written when the song went through pre-production on 11-30-03. In a crazy ironic twist, my 2nd son Simon was born on 11-30-06, 3 years later.
The chorus reflects how I see Bastian, as being a copy of who I am; and all that will truly remain one day when I am gone.
Sound wise and stylistically, this song is one of the truest early representations of what what we were becoming as we crafted the Provision sound. It's the true essence of Darkpop and all it encompasses.
As with the entire Visualize album, this song was composed, programmed and performed on all hardware synths and drum machines. Our Ensoniq TS-10 handles sequencing. Bass synths are
Korg Poly-61 & Oberheim OB-8. Synth pads are Roland JX-3P. Rhythm and lead synths were handled by an Oberheim Matrix-6, Yamaha SY85, Yamaha CS1x, and a Yamaha CS2x. All drums and percussion came from an E-Mu Procussion rack, and an Alesis SR-16.
Clan of Xymox and The Cure, both utilized a Roland JX3P in the 1980's.
The synth strings and pads this beautiful machine creates, became a part of the tonal pallete for Darkwave during the time is was born.
Replicate was released as an Exclusive B-Side, and only appears on the Bonus Remix disc with the Visualize Limited Edition released by A Different Drum.
Replicate has never been performed live.

lyrics
Replicate
A hopeless chance of a thought, without reaction.
Causing the pressure to expel our love collapsing.
The truth is burning your nerves,
with every stimulation. Feeling this separation.
I’ll give you something to recognize.
Extension of my design.
Nothing left but a memory. Replicate me.
My divine alteration, implants itself inside.
Our senses turn to the future, keeping us in line.
Our human minds, enforced to cause a reaction.
No telling when this feeling will normalize.
No message awakes me, there’s only dead lines.
I live in deafening silence.
I’m left with nothing here but a reflection.
